STANYS Conference Field Trip:
What: Ginna Power Plant Tour
When: Friday, November 3, 2017 -- 1:00 pm to 4:00pm
Where: The Robert Emmett Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, commonly known as Ginna, is a nuclear power plant located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, in the town of Ontario, Wayne County, New York, approximately 20 miles east of Rochester, New York.
The Exelon Corporation and the American Nuclear Society - Finger Lakes Region have offered us a technical tour of the R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant facility.
Situated on the shore of Lake Ontario in Wayne County, it is one of the nation’s longest operating nuclear facilities. We will tour the plant and see how it is operated while learning about nuclear fuel cycles, thermodynamic cycles and nuclear systems engineering. In addition, there may be an option to see the spent fuel pool. You will have an opportunity to interact with the nuclear control room simulator, a functioning replica of the main control room, and learn about their training program.
Departure: 1:00 p.m. Meet the group in the lobby of the Radisson Hotel at 12:45 p.m.
Return: We’ll be back at the Radisson by 4:00 p.m.
